Our Advice
There is currently
a very large range of brick paving products available in Perth. Only
a few of which have we found to be consistently of a high quality.
Most of the 'lesser' products are priced in the same range as the
better ones and it's difficult for customers to recognise inferior
products when faced with so many choices, glossy brochures and sales
talk. It is also a good idea to discuss your choice of materials/products
with your chosen tradesman before committing to a purchase. We hope
this helps.
Clay
Paving Bricks (esp. Driveways and
Paths)
Midland Brick are the
only manufacturer of what we consider to be high quality clay paving
bricks.
Cement
Paving Bricks(esp. Driveways and Paths)
BGC Blokpave are excellent
cement paving bricks. Atlas
also sell a high quality cement brick. The lesser brands are often sold
marginally cheaper than those mentioned above but are usually weak or
brittle, out of shape, mark much more easily and the end result simply
doesn't look as good.
Large Reconstituted Limestone Pavers (Pool Surrounds and stylish outdoor areas) We can unreservedly recommend Fremantle Stone, Creative Stone, EasyStone and Stylestone.
Bullnose
Pavers (esp. Pool capping, steps and wall
capping)
Fremantle Stone, Urban Stone and Archistone are all high quality.

Limestone
Blocks (esp. Free standing and retaining walls)
Archistone and BGC limestone
blocks are uniformly sized and have a nice finish. Many cheaper brands
are seriously out of shape and badly chipped but may be acceptable if
you require 'rustic appeal' ;)
Capping/Pier
Capping Stones (esp. Limestone walls)
Again we can recommend Fremantle Stone, Urban Stone and Archistone. Colonial
Sandstone also offer an interesting sandstone alternative.
About
'Seconds'
Manufacturers sell sub standard bricks as seconds usually because they
are chipped, discoloured or inconsistent sizes(or all three). inconsistently
sized bricks make it extremely hard for the paving contractor to achieve
a professional standard of finish. When using 'seconds' the quality and
appearance of the finished work may be compromised.
